Damn what an album! A release in this year’s top tier. With heavy yet dynamic compositions, Ambassadors of the Sun gives us something out of the ordinary. Everything on the album is there because it is simply needed. Only killers – no fillers! Sweden’s new big metal band!

The debut album is a potpourri of impressions. Mix Ghost, In Flames and Opeth, garnish with Kadavar for this year’s most important work. Heavy, intelligent and swinging riffs meet the right melodies. The epic Disciple overturns any kiosk. Then add Cinnabon and 1-9 and the next music export becomes a fact.

A band from Dalecarlia in Sweden that did everything right. This is how you break through! Psychedelic rock, stoner and death-metal mix well with a precision-rich musicality and as a listener you just want more and more. A better debut than this must be impossible to achieve. Impressive!

Ambassadors of the Sun is a new supergroup from central Dalecarlia in Sweden. The debut album is a technically melodic creation that is both heavy and beautiful. Heavy riffs are mixed with complex drums, calm parts and full on metal. The verbal is alternately a lullaby or an alarm clock.

When ambitious press releases come to us that say something like “it brings together musical styles and influences from the sixties to the present”, I inevitably get left behind. It is usually the postal code for disappointment. Fortunately here is not at all what we have. In fact, I don’t even know if the description in question is the one that best suits what we can hear but without a doubt that the Ambassadors Of The Sun’s music is beyond ambitious. A progressive metal that goes from extreme to world music but that is not lost in unnecessary daydreams or gimmicks to attract attention (in a world that is overcrowded with tactics like this). Music is the one who speaks the loudest, melodically, always, but never leaving weight behind. This is what makes this one of the great treasures of 2020.

Dark, mysterious, heavy and well-sounding, is my concise summary. The riff and the melodies are spot on in the powerful soundscape. The band is new, but the quartet really knows their stuff and has long experience in this metal genre. The Masochist and So Long will be added to my playlist. Magically!

Progressive tones that took their time to be created where the quartet managed to produce their own sound. The 9-minute opener Disciple is particularly phenomenal on a straight through well-composed record where Dozers Fredrik Nordin shows width in his vocal range. I sincerely hope that this does not stop at a side project.

Ambassadors of the Sun from Falun are experienced musicians with a background in bands such as Katatonia and Dozer. The experience is heard from the first note. The album begins stately with beautiful polyphonic singing, which promises a lot – and the promise is kept. The first song turns into heavy dark metal that seems to be characterized by anxiety and hopelessness. The world situation gives no reason for positive horizons. But as solar ambassadors, they may not have completely lost hope, as the willful end of “Snail” points out. After all, they seem to want to take on our dying earth star. Grunge is published as a genre that connects the members. Mainly on a melodic level, this reaches the ear, but this is not a retro album. The music is rather forward-looking and experimental, but also humble. This debut album contains an admirable mix of raw weight and well-constructed melodic parts. Often these dimensions flow together in an elegant way. “Cinnabon” is perhaps the best example, well played!

Sweet home Farlun…right? NO? Sorry I am knee-deep in this Swedish Rock music again. AMBASSADORS OF THE SUN are, of course from Farlun, Sweden and, of course, they know what they are doing. This is partly retro-oriented 70`s worshipping Heavy Metal with hints of progressive music and parts groove Metal (even moments of QUEENS OF THE STONE AGE-flavour. Nordin on vocals is rad as fuck, in one moment sounding like Ozzy and like a Thrash shouter in the next. This is , once again, really mixed when it comes to sound and obvious influences, the album starts quite mellow only to later transform into a more rough sounding band, while all the time sounding complex due to the brilliant instrumental execution. If you like a organic mix of Progressive Metal, Thrash, Retro-Rock and even Grunge (“The Masochist”). If you desperately need something that embodies the antithesis to musical boredom you should check out AMBASSADORS OF THE SUN.

Conclusion: Check this out, trust me!

Hailing from Sweden, this is a slice of Retro Progressive Metal. It has a sound that is reminiscent of a golden era of Rock yet it is bang up to date and really does push the boundaries of the more technical side of metal. There are definite hints of Groove and Stoner here along with vocals that seem to have quite a range of different styles and sound. At first I thought it a less Goth Wednesday 13, but its much much more! Released back in July, I managed to miss this. For any of you who have sidestepped this album….. I urge you to take some time to listen. Aches And Pains is amazing and very relevant to me at this present moment,  Cinnabon is another cracking track along to 1-9

Get this album on rotation!

Hardly incorporated into a single genre, these Swedes can even be classified as contemporary prog metal, but we ended up experiencing something more than that with the band including riffs that can range from punk to doom metal. With the robustness of heavy rock riffs, leads full of anticipation and a bombastic drums, the quartet also elaborates some melodic lines, especially if we take into account choruses with themes like “From the Shadows”. In short, the Ambassadors of the Sun want to be heavy and beautiful at the same time – they did it.
